Exterrestrials — Will They Be Naughty or Nice?

The Demise of Mankind

Many of us believe space aliens are a definite maybe. They are out there somewhere in the vast unknown. Do they know we are here? Have they seen our signals that many scientists think are a bad idea for us to be sending. If they find us, will they be hostile or peaceful?

Renowned physicist, Stephen Hawking, believes there are three things   that could bring about the demise of mankind: 1. Artificial Intelligence 2. Human aggression  3. Alien Life.

Back in 2010 on the Discovery Channel’s series Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking, the famous British scientist said:

If intelligent alien life forms do exist out in the vastness of the space, they might not be the friendly cosmic neighbors the people of Earth are looking for.”

Hawking likened it to Earthlings being in the same position as the Native Americans when Columbus landed on their shores. Hawking goes on to say:

An advanced spacefaring extraterrestrial civilization could end up wandering the universe in enormous spaceships on the prowl for vital materials after consuming the natural resources of their own world.”

(Wait. Isn’t that the future us?)

Hawking also speculates:

Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they can reach.”

So much for cute and cuddly ETs.

ET the kiss
Can we hope if space aliens do visit Earthling they’re as sweet as ET?

Alien Brain vs Mankind Brain

Just look at us. We are smart. “We have brains that are three times bigger than those of our closest relatives,” says Mark Flinn, an anthropologist at the University of Missouri who has researched the emergence of human intelligence. Humans have unprecedented abilities to think about each other’s thoughts and motivations, he says, to play out social scenarios in their brains and to think about the past and future.

Our huge brains are expensive. According to Flinn, they take an enormous number of calories to grow and function, up to 50%  of intake in infancy and childhood and make humans basically helpless for years after birth.

What are the chances that aliens are equally as intelligent or far more intelligent than us? Would they have energy expensive brains? Or did they evolve in such a way that they developed a smart but more efficient organ. And in this evolutionary process, was a more aggressive organ needed for survival?

Is the hope for friendly aliens merely a wish and a whisper? Scientists have only us to study in order to form best guesses for such questions. We are aggressive, we wage war, and kill each other. But we also form communities, help each other out, fall in love, and try to take care of our Earth.

Perhaps our visitors have evolved in such a way that they use all their brains instead of only a small percentage like we humans do. Perhaps they bring us answers and not death.

Direct Panspermia as depicted by the 2012 movie Prometheus.

Directed Panspermia

Personally, I believe we are here because of Directed Panspermia which is a  highly disputed hypothesis among scientists. The movie Prometheus gives a visually brilliant portrayal of this Directed Panspermia on earth as a humanoid alien’s DNA cascades into a waterfall.

Deliberate distribution of the seeds of life is known as Directed Panspermia and poses that an Extraterrestrial Intelligence purposefully scattered these buds to generate life. Why? That’s the big question.

(ProbeNote: English molecular biologist, biophysicist, and neuroscientist, Francis Crick, along with British chemist Leslie Orgel proposed this idea of Directed Panspermia.)

Predator
Aggressive visiting aliens could consider us prey like in the 1987 movie Predator.

If we are here as a result of Directed Panspermia, then I’m going to believe our alien visitors will be gentle with us and guide us.

Unless the ones who planted us are dead because an invading nomadic plundering race of hostile, aggressive, greedy monster aliens considered them prey.

Or because the planters of our seeds are planning to return one day to harvest us.

What are your thoughts? Do you think extraterrestrials will be hostile or peaceful? I’d love to hear what you think.

For the longest time I’ve considered the multiple “fringe” theories on both extra-terrestials as well as the super and supranatural pretty much fallderall.

But I’m slowly opening to various other kinds of possibilities, those that include our being the stuff of aliens long ago planted here. What drives me to those postures is our apparent disdain of our environment, other living creatures, as well as each other. This survival of the fittest at whatever cost seems ingrained. When push comes to shove, the majority of us will push against the shove almost automatically.

I’ve no doubts we have been on the radar of others from elsewhere for eons.

For me, it’s an explanation for our propensity to also focus on the spiritual and unfocusable aspects of the “over there” side of our life. Parallel? Not sure. But scientists seem to stumble across more and more evidences that challenge our yet narrow-mindedness.

I agree, Skip. The narrow-mindedness that appears to govern all we do seems counterproductive to our advancement spiritually as well as mentally. As I said in my blog, Directed Panspermia seems a likely scenario. Or perhaps we are just not asking the right questions due to our limited mind set. Great comment.Thank you for participating in the discussion.
