Are Walk-Ins Possible? Mitochondria vs Reincarnation

(An introduction to Walk-Ins appears in my last blog post.)

reincarnation
When we die, what happens to our mitochondria?

I’ve been interested in the concept of Walk-Ins and have researched the topic since the 1990s when I began work on my first novel. I didn’t take the concept seriously until I woke one morning and felt different.

My shamanic friend, Gloria, had guided a small group of individuals in a ceremony the night before. This guided journey led me to someone who had been dead for fifteen years. The young man embraced me, and I woke the next morning feeling enlightened, full of energy, and inspired to do great things.

I was different. For the next 20 plus years, the young man was with me encouraging me to write, to teach, to learn. I never felt alone. He was always present. I could feel him. And hear him.

The only thing that seemed to explain the difference in me was the concept of Walk-Ins and so began my research.

Reincarnation and Walk-Ins

Strangers Among Us Montgomery
Strangers Among Us, by Ruth Montgomery, introduced the public to the term Walk-Ins.

Reincarnation as defined by Wikipedia is:

the religious or philosophical concept that the soul or spirit, after biological death, begins a new life in a new body.

Could this explain the feeling of being different? And how does Reincarnation differ from Ruth Montgomery’s concept of Walk-Ins?

(ProbeNote: Ruth Montgomery is author of Strangers Among Us. Her book introduced the world to the concept of Walk-Ins. It infiltrated the seventies’  New Age religion, but her fame came first as a well-respected journalist and political columnist not as a writer of unorthodox ideas.)

The Belief in Reincarnation

A quick read of Reincarnation on Wikipedia outlines the history of this belief that dates back for centuries. Though rooted in the culture, traditions, and religions of India; reincarnation was also taught by Celtic Druids and discussed in ancient Greek Philosophy before Socrates. Many religions believe—as well as many famous people—in the idea of Reincarnation.

Benjamin Franklin wrote the following epitaph for himself.

The Body of B. Franklin,
Printer,
Like the cover of an Old book,
Its content torn out
Stripped of its lettering and gilding,
Lies here
Food for the worms
But the work shall not be lost,
For it will as he believed
Appear once more
In a new and more elegant edition
Revised and corrected
By the Author.
Franklin was twenty-two when he wrote the epitaph. Ever wonder where Franklin got the idea for his kite flying experiment which verified the nature of electricity? His genius? Perhaps, but I’m not even sure he believed that, because he wrote:
“When I see nothing annihilated (in the works of God) and not a drop of water wasted, I cannot suspect the annihilation of souls, or believe that He will suffer the daily waste of millions of minds ready made that now exist, and put Himself to the continual trouble of making new ones. Thus, finding myself to exist in the world, I believe I shall, in some shape or other, always exist; and, with all the inconveniences human life is liable to, I shall not object to a new edition of mine, hoping, however, that the errata of the last may be corrected.”

Walk-Ins and Reincarnation—the Difference

As I explained, in my last blog post, a Walk-In may enter the physical body of a person in need, but the original doesn’t always exit. As in my case, the Walk-In and I coexisted, and he led me on a path to higher learning—enlightenment—and then writing.

The belief in Reincarnation teaches that the body dies and the spirit moves on, which is not the same as a Walk-In. With a Walk-In, a person’s body continues, but has allowed another energy source to enter other than, or along with, its original.

How is this possible?

A Fringe Concept

Fringe Hand
Fringe was a science fiction TV series created by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci. It premiered on the FOX network September 9, 2008. If you’ve never experienced Fringe, and are a science fiction lover, try it out. I think you will enjoy its mind-blowing content.

In an episode of this science fiction TV series, Fringe (2008-2013), character Dr. Walter Bishop, played by actor John Nobles, discussed mitochondria and said that these powerhouses of our cells cannot be created nor can they be destroyed. Is this just TV science fiction?

Facts

  • Within each of our cells are many mitochondria, tiny biochemical power plants that convert chemicals from food to ATP, the basic fuel molecule used by your cells to provide energy for life.
  • A person inherits his/her/their mitochondrial genes primarily from the mother, with some rare exceptions.
  • Mitochondria were once a separate organism that came to live in symbiosis with ancestral cells. As such, they brought their own DNA to the party; some of it still remains within our mitochondria, separate from the DNA we carry in chromosomes in the cell nucleus.

If Dr. Walters is right, that mitochondria cannot be created nor can it be destroyed, then when we die, where does our mitochondria—our energy—go? And do I have someone else’s mitochondria floating around inside me?

This is the essence of a Walk-In, and I believe explains, in a sciencey way, the possibility that they could exist.

How You Might Feel

Have you ever suddenly felt different–behaved differently, believed differently—for no explainable reason? You are you. But you don’t feel the same. You no longer feel the need to run to church every Sunday. Instead, someone is telling you to stay home, go for a walk, enjoy nature because that is where the Creator is.

You might feel like Emily Dickinson, who wrote:

Some keep the Sabbath going to Church –
I keep it, staying at Home –
With a Bobolink for a Chorister –
And an Orchard, for a Dome –
Some keep the Sabbath in Surplice –
I, just wear my Wings –
And instead of tolling the Bell, for Church,
Our little Sexton – sings.
God preaches, a noted Clergyman –
And the sermon is never long,
So instead of getting to Heaven, at last –
I’m going, all along.

Or you might feel somewhat like the lyrics in the song Bruce Springsteen wrote and sings, “The Streets of Philadelphia.” Though the song was written for the film Philadelphia,  it has resonating phrases that resemble the feeling one gets when hosting a Walk-In.

“I was bruised and battered, I couldn’t tell what I felt
I was unrecognizable to myself
I saw my reflection in a window, I didn’t know my own face…”

—Bruce Springsteen, “The Streets of Philadelphia.”

My Experience with Walk-Ins

spirit-manMy first Walk-In left me after many years when he knew I was well on my way to becoming a writer. He told me he had others to inspire. I cried, and each day he faded a little more until I could no longer feel him. His journey was complete. Mine was not.

Recently

Several years ago, I believe I became host to another Walk-In. Her name was Lyla. Unlike my first Walk-In, her mission was not to inspire my writing but to reunite with an energy from her past. Once that had happened, she left.

She was fun, but not concerned with my need to write, and she was a bit of a mischief maker. She broke the rules, giggled about it, and threw caution to the wind. I think this is why she left so quickly. We were not a good match. Either that, or her mission was complete.

She did teach me a few things. She’d say things at four in the morning like, “Get your ass out of bed. Your body can sleep when it’s dead. Live today because it may be your last day as the you who you are now.”  Then she’d giggle and say stuff like, “You’re not getting any younger. Get that tattoo you’ve always wanted.”

And so I did.

She made me feel young again, full of life and energy. For that I will always be grateful. But as I sit staring at my tattoo, I’m going like, Seriously? What was that about?

And I giggle a little, too.

Very interesting. Seems like a convienient way to shift blame to something or someone for decisions that you are now regretting.

Hi Rob, thank you for your comment and stopping by. I’m glad you found it interesting but it concerns me that all you garnered from the post was something I had no intention of implying. I have re-read my recent blog post on Walk-Ins and don’t see the words blame or regrets anywhere.

Instead, I see the words grateful and enlightened in regards to my Walk-Ins. As far as regrets in my life, I have very few. I’ve always tried to help others and do what was right. My regrets stem from trusting people I should not have trusted, and I blame no one but myself for that.

Hiya Richard,

Yes, I answer personally. I would love to hear about your situation. If you’d rather not talk about it here, I can email you, if I have your permission to do so.

Thank you for commenting and for your compliment. So happy you found this post interesting. Hope you will stop by again.

Yay! I enjoyed the new post. I always think of Steven King’s Dark Tower series when I hear walk-ins, which was more of a parallel universe visitor (also cool Fringe stuff).

I didn’t get the impression that you wanted to use your Walk-in as a scapegoat, but more of an influence on you. I didn’t. Read regret in your post as much as delight in the influence of these inner forces.

Lastly, would the mitacondria in our body just go the way of everything else that decomposes when we die? Into the earth?

Hi, I wish I had s walk in to inspire me yo get up and do things or help me with my chronic pain!
Can one ask for a walk in to come and help?
Why were you chosen as a host?
Thank you so much!
All the best,
Ekaterina

Hello Ekaterina! First, let me say thank you for commenting. Next, let me apologize for taking so long to respond. I read your comment the day you wrote it, however, the questions you asked stumped me. It took me some time to put into words what I needed to tell you.

Why was I chosen? I’ve thought over the question many times in the early morning hours and the conclusion I came to is that even as a child I have been sensitive to that fourth dimension where supernatural entities exist. I’m an easy mark so to speak. I don’t fight it.

My first Walk-In was a young man I’d known and had been close to. He died in a gun accident. He was a very creative individual. I think this is what drew us to each other. I think he became my Walk-In to help me to see my potential as a writer. He was my muse. My inspiration for many years and I miss him.

My most recent Walk-In was with me for less than a year. She had her own agenda, which I didn’t mind. She needed to connect with someone from her past. Someone she’d loved. I called her Lyla, and she gave to me her energy and filled me with her love. It was a very rewarding experience.

I’m so sorry for your pain. One can ask for a Walk-In, but the asking is only the first step. You must first open your mind to the fact that there are things in this world and beyond that no human can explain. Accept that there is no explanation. Doesn’t mean you can’t question because to question is to gain knowledge for that which there are no answers.

Once you open your heart and mind to the possibilities, be ready to listen to those voices in your head. Some of those voices will not be yours, and are a way to talk to your Walk-In. Hope you find enlightenment and with it peace.

With warm regards,
Clara. (Hope you comment often. I love your questions.)

Hello, i have experienced something similar you describe, and the content of your article has been fascinating. I personally am a walk in of ten years in this body, and have struggled with completing the mission in the body and circumstances i am in. It’s overpowering, knowing and seeing and having to act in front of her relatives and family. It took me several years just to get anchored here, but the temptation to walk out again has now been stronger than ever. Thank you for this article.

Hi Silvia,

So very wonderful to connect with you and to know there are others like me. You are extremely brave to share this with me. Thank you. Your mission sounds very hard, and I can’t even imagine the struggle you must face every day. My first Walk-In co-existed with me and guided me down the path I should have always been on, so the mission for both of us was easy. My last Walk-In was fun. As I said, her mission was to reconnect with someone from her past. Though fun, it was often difficult to present to my family the person I had been. So I know a little of what you are feeling.

I do hope you are able to find the strength to continue. You can find me on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Clara-Bush-1406599196272933/ and message me if you need to talk more in depth.

Thank you for commenting and I’m pleased you found my blog helpful.

Wishing you light and love in this world and the next,
Clara.

I’ve had 2 walk-ins. I read Ruth’s book in the early 80’s trying to figure out what was going on with me. I changed my name legally in 1985 because I no longer was the person with my birth name. I believe my first walk-in was completing life lessons from a past life that interlaced with lessons that I was also undertaking. My second walk-in is still with me and has helped me along the path of healing myself and healing others. While the memories I have of the first 50 years of this particular lifetime are somewhat vague, I definitely Know the lessons that were being presented and I can’t even imagine ever having to experience that again as the lessons were most assuredly learned. I’m very grateful to have experienced this because I believe that tough lessons learned in any lifetime collapses lifetimes in the future that may have come to pass. Very thankful to have found your blog and to have an outlet for these thoughts.

Gosh, Maggye, it’s so great to have you as a reader and friend. There are not many people in this world who I can talk to about Walk-Ins. (One reason for my blog.) Very comforting to know there is someone who has experienced what I have. When I first read Ruth, I had that AH-HA moment and was grateful to find someone who could explain what I’d always known but couldn’t understand.

I totally agree with your statement: “I believe that tough lessons learned in any lifetime collapses lifetimes in the future that may have come to pass.” That statement is so profound and bears a lot of thought. Would love it if you would expound on your thoughts regarding this. It would make an awesome blog post!

Thank you for following me and commenting. I look forward to reading more about your experiences and thoughts.—Love and Light, Clara

Hi Clara,
Once again, I’m researching the phenomenon of ‘Walk-ins’. I 100% believe that you can ‘merge’ with a spirit as it happened to me. Of course, I thought I was crazy… But I have now learned about the Continuing Bonds model of grief – which is researched academically – and it has brought some relief to me, and that I could trust myself and my experiences.
However, now our ‘relationship’ has become not enough for me (I dare not say ‘for us’ because there is a lingering doubt that I am imagining all this…). Could that spirit reincarnate as a ‘swap’ walk-in so that we can live together in the physical? It is my dearest wish, and, if I trust myself, I can hear him say that it is his too.
Thanks for any comment you might have.

Hi Catherine,

So very wonderful to connect with someone who has experienced a Walk-In. I guess it’s hard for those who have never had a Walk-In to understand. But, like you, I believe because I have lived with Walk-Ins most of my life.

You pose a very interesting question. And I’d have to say, yes. My reason for saying yes? Over the years I’ve come in contact with numerous individuals—in love—who tell me that the moment they met they knew they were meant for each other. They say it’s as if they’d known each other all their lives. I believe they did know each other and probably through a Walk-In connection at some point in their life.

I believe if your Walk-In wants to share a physical form with you, he will leave and return to you in a form with whom you can share this dimension. Someone you could touch and hold. Having said that, he may be unable to disconnect from you at this time. His purpose in becoming a part of you may have been to enlighten you and bring you to a better understanding of yourself. Perhaps he has yet to succeed and must wait until his mission is accomplished in order for you to accept him in whatever form he returns to you in.

I sense you are very close to your Walk-In, so talk to him. Ask him how you accomplish the thing you both desire. Then open yourself up and listen to what he says. He will lead you on the path that is best for you and him. It might not be the path you are hoping for, but trust he will put you on the path that’s best for both of you.

Thank you for commenting and sharing your experience with my readers and me. Keep in touch and let me know how your journey goes. Hoping you might one day embrace your Walk-In. In love and light, Clara.

BTW, definitely trust yourself and him. You are not crazy. You are becoming enlightened. And learning all the things that are actually possible in the world. Things others close their minds to.

Thank you Clara. We often ‘talk’ about it. There are many threads that need to come together, and there’s more healing to be done on my side (being highly sensitive comes with blessings and curses). ‘Trust in the Source and patience’… two things I still have to work on… And you’re quite right: the acceptance of ‘whatever form he returns in’ is a biggie, because I know what he looked like in his previous incarnation. I have to concentrate on his ‘essence’…
Thank you for posting all your ‘weird’ things.
