Chapter 2: On Gate World

(Last Time on Hell Town: The smile. The eyes. Leo wanted her. Wanted her bad. He’d have to be careful. He didn’t want to impregnate her… yet. Not now. Not before he knew how to access The Shimmer. But tonight he could give her—and himself—what they both wanted and leave her begging for more.)

Stranger Earths: After the Lovin’

Leo listened for familiar sounds. He was in his room. In his very own bed. But nothing sounded the same. Nothing felt the same as it did a mere hour ago.

Piper rose straight up from her pillow panting. “Oh shit. Oh crap. Oh damn.” She flopped back down. “I had no idea it’d feel like that. Mmmmm,” she moaned. “Still feels so good.” She snuggled in close to Leo and entwined her left leg around his torso. “I hope it was okay for you. It was my first time with a guy. Do all guys make a girl feel like this or are you just…just very talented?”

Leo wanted to answer. But he couldn’t. It was her first time, and it may as well been his. For all his one-hundred-plus years of experience, nothing compared to Piper’s explosive orgasm. They engulfed him. When he came with her, a huge wave overpowered him, sucking him in deeper and deeper, and then exploded him back into the world with every nerve of his body alive, giving him so much more sway than anyone ever had.

He wanted to answer Piper. He really did. But he felt too revitalized to speak. He didn’t want the feeling to stop. And it made him think all kinds of crazy thoughts. Like he wanted to tell her everything. He wanted to tell her he wasn’t a Gate Worlder but a Times Three. And for the first time in his life, he wanted to tell a human he loved them. He wanted to tell Piper he loved her.

He wondered—if she gave him this much sway from making love to her—could he forgo the Timeree practice of eating human flesh for regeneration? Then he told himself these were all stupid thoughts, and he could never tell Piper anything about his true origin or motives.

But damn she was special. So fucking special. He wanted to share everything with her. And the thought of her ever leaving him, fired off a sharp pain in his chest. What the fuck is happening to me? She’s a fucking human.

But he felt the softness of her breasts pressed against his chest. He could hear her breathing in that peaceful dozy state one does after deeply satisfying sex. And in that moment, he knew she was so much more than a mere human.

What the crap was he going to do? He had a mission. He had to use Piper to locate The Shimmer on Gate World. Once he turned over the information to the Vrag Commander, Earth was doomed. So was mankind. So was Piper. Fuck no. Sure Times Threes—he—and his disciplines would then control Gate World and be virtually all powerful. But suddenly a home without Piper seemed meaningless.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. You can’t think like this. He told himself.

The Time Threes had spent centuries infiltrating Gate World for this opportunity to overtake it. How could one girl ruin everything?

“Mmmmm,” Piper moaned still enjoying the feeling of desire satisfied. “You’re not saying much. Was I that bad?”

He hugged her tighter to his chest. “No, funny face, you were…you were…” He didn’t know how to tell her she was perfect. “You sure this was your first time?”

“First time with a guy, yes. And funny face? Really?”

“By, ‘first time with a guy,’ do you mean you’ve been with a girl.”

“No. Silly. And you’re avoiding the funny face question. By first time with a guy, I mean, in the past I’ve been the sole provider of my own orgasm. Never met a guy, or girl, I wanted to do it with. Until you. And I must confess, the thought of you was all I needed to help myself out in the heat of many moments,” she giggled and nestled closer, overtaking his bare chest. “Funny face? Huh?”

“You’re just so damn cute. All sparkle, but not in a fake way. Those shaggy bangs of yours accent your captivating eyes. And the way the corners of your lips turn up even when you’re not smiling makes me want to kiss them over and over until I can’t breathe—”

“Who are you? Captivating? Are you from this century?”

Leo wanted to tell her right then and there the truth. But understanding the truth might literally set him free. Free of Piper. He didn’t dare risk it. “What? You don’t like the word captivating? Or the nickname, funny face?”

“Well, if you, and just you, are the only person to call me funny face, then I like it. But my big butt. It doesn’t bother you?”

“Big butt? What big butt? You have a big butt? Stand up and let me check this monster out.”

“Stop. How could you miss it?” Piper scooched out of bed, turned her behind to him, and wiggled it. “See, big.”

“I need to feel it to make my decision. Come here.” He squeezed one ass cheek then the other, kissed them both, and gave her left one a tender nip. “Nope, not too big. It’s a handful. And a mouthful. And quite tasty. Nice ass, funny face.” He slapped it, pulled her to him, and kissed her.

He needed to feel her lips on his again. His tongue in her mouth and hers in his. He knew what this action could lead to. He knew his disciplines were waiting at the cemetery for them. That they were anxious to complete their mission. He was aware of all this but chose to lock it away somewhere deep in his knowing. A single thought survived. Making love to Piper. Making love. Not fucking. Making love. A new revelation for Leo.

Piper slept in Leo’s arms after making love again. He wanted to forget about his disciples. His mission. His being a Times Three. And lie tangled up in Piper for the rest of her life. He’d out live her, but he could love her as long as she lived.

Leo’s cell phone vibrated on the nightstand. He ignored it. Brushed Piper’s bangs aside and kissed her forehead. The annoying vibration stopped then started right back up.

Piper stirred. “Hey, babe. Should you get that?”

Leo ran his thumb over the home button. “What?” He listened. “Yes, damn it, we’ll be there?” He disconnected, tossed the phone aside, and reached for his underwear. “Gang is waiting. Guess we better go.”

He didn’t want to go. Staying in bed with Piper and forgetting his responsibilities was what he wanted. But he couldn’t risk the suspicion it might create among his disciples and his superiors.

Leo convinced himself all these new feelings—these feeling about a human girl—would disappear as soon as he was at the cemetery with his disciples. They had to. He didn’t have a choice. The future of the Times Threes landed on his shoulders. No one else’s.

“Will your group be accepting of me,” Piper asked.

“Yes, of course,” Leo said. “What’s not to like?”

Piper bowed her head like a shy child, and he loved her the most in that moment. He loved her innocence. Her cluelessness. But he knew damn good and well his disciples wouldn’t accept her and would not understand his passion for her.

He’d warned them. And then warned them again to be nice to her. He told Gaze, Sabre, and Ibis no licking their lips. He told Kite, Jag, and Lynx hands off—absolutely no touching of any kind. Not even hand shaking. Leo didn’t want any of them putting thoughts in her head. He wanted her to have thoughts only of him and from him.

Although, when he reflected, it seemed it was she who was imposing thoughts on him. Could this be true? The revelation sent a round quivers throughout his body. Surely, she couldn’t. Could she? She’s just a human. But still…he’d never felt like this about anyone.

The WEB SERIAL, or WTH is it?

With the onset of the technology boom, authors are discovering innovative ways to get their works in front of readers. However, though the web serial relies on the internet for distribution, it is not a new idea. It’s much like how writers became known before the days of mass-produced, full-length novels. Earlier writers, such as Mark Twain, released a chapter at a time, on a regular basis, in newspapers or magazines. This is the same concept as the Web Serial. Writers publish their works in bite-sized, one-sitting reads to facilitate the hurried reader. The web helps to make it easily accessible to the writer’s fan base.

Hell Town offers episodes of 1,000 to 2,000 words in length and is considered a tightly cohesive style of web serial. This type intertwines episodes with each other and depends on the reader being familiar with the story. It is meant to be read as one might read a book.

About the Artist

Lara resides in the Texas hill country with her two adorable but exhausting little boys, her husband, and two male dogs. She confesses her life is dominated by male influence.

Artist Lara Clayton and her son, Axton.

She graduated from Trinity University in 2009 with her Bachelor’s degree in art and with an art history minor. During her life, she has worn many hats—bartender, barista, massage therapist, newspaper circulation manager, wine shop manager, and the list continues. These life experiences have added a richness and depth to her artwork.

Through it all, she has quietly honed her passions for art. “The starving artist is only a half joke,” she says. “When I had my first son, I surprised myself by finding my niche as a preschool teacher.” A career choice she has embraced for the past five years. “My experience as a bartender—dealing with the drinkers—was a great prerequisite for teaching small children,” she says and giggles.

For several years, Lara put her artwork aside to teach and delve headfirst into the chaotic life of caring for a houseful of boys. “Before children, my artwork had always been calm. Abstracts and nature were relaxing,” she says. “But my older son’s love of monsters and all things grotesque, along with my muse of a husband, have led me to a new path. I now begin a different journey, creating monsters and other worlds for writers. I’m excited to bring to life some of the creepy characters and creatures of Hell Town. Please, let me know what you think by leaving a comment.”

(Note: Lara is a new addition to the Hell Town RV Park Web Serial family. She is a former drama and English student of mine, and is on her way to accomplishing her dream of becoming a freelance artist. The illustrations are the original artwork of Lara and are created specifically for Hell Town.)

We both would love your feedback. And if you are looking for an artist, Lara is available.
